Boutique Quality, Point-to-point wiring, Military Style Construction...

Hiwatt about ChassisHIWATT kicked off in the mid/late 1960s under the guidance of British audio engineer Dave Reeves, who started from humble beginnings building amps in his spare time from his maisonette in Surrey, England. Reeves established a reputation for quality and with artists such as The Who, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Jethro Tull choosing to use Hiwatt, the brand was at the forefront of guitar amplification for the remainder of the 1960s and much of the 1970s.

Dave Reeves’ untimely death in 1981 prompted a period of instability and problems for Hiwatt. The Company passed from the control of lawyers into the hands of a group of Hiwatt employees, however this did not prove to be a great success. Within a year or so the company was in a poor state and struggling to meet its financial commitments.

Hiwatt’s second coming arrived in 1984 when the company again changed hands. Since that time steady steps have been taken towards restoring the brand to its former glory whilst remaining true to the original meticulous manufacturing process and superior build quality. In recent years, the resurgence of valve-driven amplification over transistors has led new artists such as Coldplay, The Killers, Oasis, The Enemy and Arctic Monkeys to embrace the truly unmistakeable Hiwatt sound. In short, Hiwatt is back amongst the top five amplification companies in the world.

Hiwatt is the classic British Rock 'n' Roll Amplifier still built to the highest standards. Road-tested by a generation of great musicians, British Hiwatt Amplifiers have proven their dependability and durability year after year. Since 1966, Hiwatt products have been built to the highest specifications, using only the best components available.

Hiwatt about Circuit

These are the models that made the Hiwatt name what it is today. Point-to-point wiring painstakingly finished to Harry Joyce's exacting military standards. Transformers wound to the original Partridge specification. Only the highest quality valves. Cabinets constructed with 18mm marine quality birch ply. Each amplifier and speaker cabinet is carefully assembled by hand and soak-tested in our own factory.

The result is that unique Hiwatt sound, rich in 3rd and 5th harmonics, as effective in the studio as it is on stage.

Today, a highly-skilled team of engineers continue to custom-build Hiwatt amplification products to those original specifications, providing the power, reliability and road-worthiness that the professionals have come to expect.
